Reflection from AID – Tunceli experience and impact

For us, the invitation to Tunceli was not just participation in a project activity, it was a moment of transformation, both at an individual and organizational level.

Coming from a context where much of our work is structured around frameworks, deliverables, and strategic outputs, arriving in Dersim challenged the way we understand collaboration and impact. As described in the project narrative, the experience itself  the journey, the encounter with the Munzur Valley, and the hospitality of the Zembul cooperative  created what could best be described as a “disorienting moment,” where learning moved beyond theory into lived reality .

What changed for us as an organization (AID) was not only inspiration, but direction.

We began to rethink how community-based initiatives can be designed — not as externally imposed solutions, but as organic extensions of local identity, knowledge, and resilience. The cooperative model we observed in Tunceli, rooted in solidarity and cultural preservation, resonated strongly with our own work in Moldova, particularly in areas related to social cohesion and resilience to disinformation.

As a result, this experience is already influencing how we approach project design. We are actively exploring ways to:

  • integrate community-driven economic empowerment models into our initiatives,
  • strengthen cross-cultural exchanges as a tool for resilience-building,
  • and develop new project proposals inspired by partnerships and practices observed in Tunceli.

In this sense, the impact of the visit is ongoing — it is not limited to the project itself but continues to shape our strategic thinking and future collaborations.
